BRIEF-Golf-ASEAN Tour granted seven places at Singapore Open (Reuters)
Thailand’s Namchok Tantipokhakul and six other leading players from the ASEAN Tour will be granted entry into the lucrative Singapore Open, organisers of the Southeast Asian circuit said on Tuesday.

US Open to go even deeper into prime time (AP)
The U.S. Open at Pebble Beach will be televised later than ever in prime time on the weekend. The USGA made it official Monday by releasing TV times for the U.S. Open, to be held June 17-20. The third round on NBC is scheduled to end at 11 p.m. EDT on Saturday. Coverage of Sunday’s final round is to end at 9 p.m.

A loss for Brian Davis — but a big win for golf (AP)
What happened in the junk off the 18th green at the Harbour Town Golf Links could have all been avoided if Brian Davis had only taken the easy way out. That, however, was never really an option. Davis was going to play the shot out of the hazard instead of taking a penalty drop because it was probably the only chance he had to finally win a golf tournament.

Heritage in peril? PGA Tour stop needs sponsor (AP)
Many of the PGA Tour’s best players build Harbour Town Golf Links into their schedule, but that could soon be changing. Verizon and its preceeding companies, MCI and Worldcom, had sponsored the event since 1987, but the deal ended with the final round Sunday. Right now, there’s no replacement sponsor for the nearly $8 million necessary to put on the tournament each year.

Kevin Chappell wins first Nationwide Tour title (AP)
Former UCLA star Kevin Chappell won the Fresh Express Classic on Sunday for first Nationwide Tour title, birdieing two of the last four holes for a 6-under 65 for a one-stroke victory over Canadian David Hearn. The 23-year-old Chappell opened with rounds of 66, 67 and 66 en route to a tournament-record 20-under 264 total at TPC Stonebrae.
