Jim Furyk says he’s done putting pressure on himself. That’s good, because about two dozen players plan to give the sixth-ranked Furyk all he can handle in the final round of the Verizon Heritage. Furyk shot a 4-under 67 on Saturday to reach 11 under, good for a one-stroke lead over Brian Davis (66) at Harbour Town Golf Links.

Jim Furyk withstood a crazy Saturday shootout that could lead to an even wilder final round at the Verizon Heritage. Furyk shot a 67 for an 11-under 202, good for a one-stroke lead over Brian Davis (66). Another stroke back were two-time Verizon champ Boo Weekley (68), Stephen Ames (65), Briny Baird (66), Ricky Barnes (66), Luke Donald (67), Woody Austin (67) and Heath Slocum (67).

O’Meara leads after first round on Champions Tour (AP)
That putting tip that Mark O’Meara received from Tiger Woods on the 10th green at Augusta National last week sure paid off. O’Meara shot a 6-under 65 on Friday, taking a one-stroke lead over Mike Reid and defending champion Nick Price in the first round of the Champions Tour’s Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am.

A grueling Masters finally caught up to K.J. Choi on Friday at the Verizon Heritage, and Jim Furyk, Charles Howell III and Greg Owen took advantage to top the second-round leaderboard at Harbour Town. Furyk (68), Howell (67) and Owen (69) were tied at 7-under 135, a stroke ahead of a group that included two-time Verizon champ Boo Weekley (68) and Stuart Appleby (67).

Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice shot a 5-over 76 — seven strokes better than his opening 83 — on Friday in the Fresh Express Classic to miss the cut in his Nationwide Tour debut. “Shooting 76 today, I’m happy with that, because I had to fight my way back from yesterday,” said Rice, also the tournament host.
